Volunteer Experience
While a student at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, I volunteered with different organizations and participated in various community service projects. Below are a few examples of the activities I was involved in.
Young Life
Young Life is a non-demonational ministry with the mission of "introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith." Starting my sophomore year, I began training to be a volunteer Young Life leader for the Mid-Tex area. Since being assigned to Belton High School at the beginning of my junior year, I spent at a minimum of 10 hours a week spending time with and mentoring high school girls. I had lunch with them at the high school, attended sporting games, and had conversations with them outside of school over coffee or a meal. I also helped lead a weekly Young Life Club where the high schoolers came to sing songs, play crazy games and hear a leader share about Christ.
First Year Council Outreach Committee
My freshman and sophomore year at UMHB I was involved in a leadership organization called First Year Council. My sophomore year I was selected to be a leader for the next year's freshman and was in charge of the Outreach Committee and was responsible for organizing outreach projects for the organization help with. One of the projects we participated in was building a playhouse for children of a local military family. We also spent time serving at a local food pantry called Helping Hands.
UMHB Reaching Out
UMHB has a university-wide outreach program called Reaching Out where students are encouraged to participate in community service projects one Saturday out of the semester. I participated multiple semesters and helped with projects including yard work at a local museum, flood clean up, helping paint a counseling center and playing with underprivileged elementary school children.
